Mariusz Mielczarek for GLOBEnergia.pl: “Will it be possible to buy a split heat pump in 2027? There is one condition”
From 2027, the heat pump market will face a significant change – popular split-type units with a capacity of up to 12 kW and a refrigerant with a GWP factor equal to or higher than 150 will no longer be allowed to be placed on the market. What do the new regulations entail and how will they affect the possibility of purchasing such devices? Senior associate Mariusz Mielczarek shared his commentary on the GLOBEnergia.pl portal.
The new EU F-gas regulations introduce, from 1 January 2027, a ban on placing split-type heat pumps with a capacity of up to 12 kW and a refrigerant with a GWP factor equal to or higher than 150 on the market.
Mariusz Mielczarek explains that the key issue is the concept of “placing on the market”: “Placing on the market therefore means the first making available of a product or device on the EU market (its production or import from outside the EU), i.e., the moment when the product becomes available to distributors, installers, or end users – for payment or free of charge.”
Our expert also emphasizes that simply having a device in stock does not yet constitute placing it on the market – only its sale or transfer to another entity marks this moment.
In practice, this means that split-type heat pumps with R32 can still be purchased in 2027 and later, but only those that were placed on the market before that date. “Devices already placed on the market before the ban takes effect can continue to be sold and installed, provided that there is evidence of their prior legal placement on the market,” adds Mariusz Mielczarek.
The year 2026 will be the last in which new split-type heat pumps of this kind can be legally placed on the market. The market is gradually moving towards eco-friendly solutions – monoblock heat pumps or split units with new, low-emission refrigerants.
