Behind the scenes at KWKR: Iwona Aleksandrowicz-Strus on law, passion and working with our team

As part of KWKR’s rebranding, we want to show you the real people behind the scenes – those who support your business every day. In a series of interviews with our lawyers, we’ll present not only their professional credentials, but also their passions, motivations and personal perspectives on the law. We believe that trust is built through transparency. We want you to know us not just as legal experts, but as people who truly care about your business. Behind every contract, every legal process and every piece of advice are individuals bringing their experience, empathy and commitment. We invite you to read our conversation with Iwona Aleksandrowicz-Strus, senior managing associate at our firm and a specialist in intellectual property law and new technologies.

What do you do, and what areas of law are closest to you?

I help companies build and protect the value of their products, services, and ideas – especially where technology, intellectual property, and business strategy intersect. I work with clients who develop innovative solutions – from software and digital platforms to entirely new business models. I advise on IP commercialization as well as on matters related to know-how protection, licensing, white-labeling, and trademark and patent registration – both in Poland and internationally.

I also support companies expanding into foreign markets, securing their rights across jurisdictions, or organizing their IP portfolios in the context of investments, restructuring, or tech partnerships. I combine a strategic mindset with hands-on legal advice – so that the law not only protects the business but also helps it grow.

What’s your superpower at KWKR – your biggest strength at work?

My superpower? I’m able to navigate a wide range of projects – regardless of the industry, scale, or stage. I love jumping into new territory, exploring the unknown, and untangling complex challenges. But I never dive in headfirst – always with a plan (laughs). I start by listening, asking questions, and understanding the context before I act. No project intimidates me, and my team often jokes that I have a knack for taking something that sounds absurd at first and turning it into a concrete strategy or solution.

What do you value most about working at KWKR?

I enjoy working at KWKR because it’s a place where you can truly grow – not just professionally, but also personally. I work with clients who are ambitious, innovative, and demanding in the best possible way. Every day brings new challenges that push me to think deeper, act smarter, and keep learning. There’s no room for routine here.

I also feel incredibly lucky when it comes to the people I work with. I learn something new from my team literally every day – and I truly hope it works both ways. KWKR is not the kind of place where you have to “put on your lawyer face,” pretend to be someone you’re not, or use language no one understands. Quite the opposite – here, we believe that being an effective lawyer doesn’t require Latin (unless it’s the street version – to emphasize your point during tough negotiations). Nor does it mean wrapping simple things in complex words. Business expects clarity, simplicity, and understanding – and that’s something both I and this firm have in our DNA.

What are your passions? What do you do in your free time?

I have three passions that balance out my day-to-day life: baking, yoga, and travel.

Baking is my favorite creative outlet – but not for myself, for others. I love sweets a little too much, so to avoid temptation, I just don’t eat them. But friends, family, and coworkers can always count on cheesecakes, muffins, chocolate cakes, and every other sugary form of care. Baking is my version of therapy – with a side of feeding people.

Yoga is my second passion – not necessarily the calm and quiet kind. I especially love warrior sequences: Warrior I, II, III… they stand strong and steady, even when everything around them is shifting. Just like a good lawyer. These poses may look simple, but try holding one for a minute without wobbling – you’ll see it takes focus, strength, and real strategy. That’s why yoga, for me, is more than just a workout – it’s a perfect metaphor for legal work: balance, endurance, focus, and calm – even when your leg (or chin) starts shaking.

And finally, travel – especially the kind filled with sunshine, great food (and wine!), wonder at simple things, and a daily dose of “wow.”

That’s my recipe for balance – somewhere between the oven, the yoga mat, and the airport.

What’s one piece of legal advice you would give clients without hesitation?

Come to us before something becomes a problem – not when it’s already on fire. Seriously. The biggest issues usually stem from things like “it was just a formality” or “we signed it to get started quickly.” The law works best as prevention, and we genuinely prefer helping you around a calm table – not in the middle of a crisis.

One more thing: be honest with us and take a moment to talk about your business strategy. As much as we try, we can’t read minds. A meeting with your lawyer is a bit like a good confession – you need to tell us everything, even if it feels silly or unimportant. Because often, those details make the difference between a legal problem and a smart solution.

What has surprised you most about being a lawyer?

The most surprising thing was just how analytical the law can be – and that this kind of analysis can actually be fun. I always knew the law required creativity and out-of-the-box thinking, but over time I’ve really come to appreciate the satisfaction of building logical structures, untangling complexity, and finding clarity in the noise. It’s like cleaning up a really messy room – you don’t know where to start at first, but the deeper you go, the more rewarding it feels when everything falls into place.

In which legal areas are you and your team at KWKR ready to support clients?

Are you creating an innovative product? Planning to expand into a new market? Or maybe you want to secure what’s truly most valuable in your business – your intellectual property, know-how, and competitive advantage? That’s exactly where I can help.

At KWKR, I support those who think, create, and build – so they can grow securely. Whether it’s about IP strategy, software licensing, white-label agreements, foreign expansion, or business structuring – I’ll help you translate it into legal language, without unnecessary formalities but with a clear, actionable plan.

Instead of saying “it can’t be done,” I prefer to ask, “what do you want to achieve?” Then I find the right tools, translate between business and legal, and we make it happen. If you’re looking for a partner who listens, understands, and delivers – let’s talk.
